Unless I'm mistaken, a buddy pass is valid on Delta metal only and domestic codeshares. If that's the case, you may wind up being on the hook for a paid ticket to an airport where you can get a Delta flight. The connections in the current schedule are all codeshares via KLM or Air France. The IST-JFK flight resumes at the end of April per the schedule. The issue with getting to another airport is finding one where you're not embargoed or where availability is low.If there was another Delta flight ex-IST, getting the change done would be easy; it could be processed at the ticket counter without the intervention of your friend. I don't know whether or not KLM or Air France at IST could help; my tentative answer is that they can't, as they use a different reservations system. The question you left open is when you plan on returning. If you need to return soon, I'd suggest getting in touch with your friend in spite of her difficult personal circumstances. If that fails, it can't hurt to call reservations and see if they can help.Hopefully someone else can weigh in with more definitive information on this.

Dear S3I have a friend who is a doctor and I make it a point to ask about her so I will not be embarrassed when I ask for medical advice. Similarly, I hope you are well and I wanted to thank you for taking the time to send me such a thorough answer. I especially liked the use of buzz words like “Delta metal” and “codeshares” and your sensitivity toward being “embargoed”. I would be still be interested to know if the buddy pass is valid on international codeshares, but since I am somewhat off the grid, I don’t think it would be wise to travel to Istanbul and show up at the Air France or KLM Ticket Counter looking for assistance. I have looked for European cities serviced by Delta and having flights to JFK and I think London offers the best chance with 3 daily flights. (I am not sure if it is every day, just the day I searched)I also appreciated learning that, “getting the change done would be easy; it could be processed at the ticket counter without the intervention of your friend”, but I just wanted to confirm that with you. I will be traveling in a few weeks, and if the change can be done at the London Ticket Counter I will avoid contacting Reservations or my friend. Any follow-up on my plans or inquiry would be greatly appreciated and again thank you for your time and consideration.Stay well
