      My friend and I are traveling together. I have a companion ticket, and she has a buddy pass. We are attempting some very tight flights. I don't want to leave her stranded, so I want to get on the plane only after she has a seat. How do I address this? Just ask the ticket agent? If they assign me a seat, I am concerned they won't let me back out.

      See if you can ask the agent, hopefully s/he isn't too busy to give you some idea about your friend's chance of getting on. If she is not expected to get on, a helpful agent will tell you.
